It is always about the money.....
and, as you referenced Cobb, the WWE appears to be a leading indicator for where the media content/landscape is moving. Looking at the transaction between the WWE and Peacock Premium would imply Peacock needs a max of 3.34 million new monthly subscribers to break even on the transaction and maybe significantly less depending on how they do with other(advertising, etc.) auxiliary streams of revenue. I think psychologically people will more often opt for the smaller monthly subscriptions than larger priced one time buys. As the media companies have learned and conferences are coming to appreciate money is maximized when you control your content and you have a robust distribution network. At present it looks like the SEC and Big 10 have learned faster than the other conferences. The ACC got the distribution part but, lost a lot of control of the content. PAC12 did the exact opposite in maintaining content control but, failed on the distribution end. Big 12 is kind of middle of the road of those two. Hopefully Jim Phillips will be able to improve the ACC position and compensate for the failures of Swofford and his crony media consultants. Phillips will need help though, football has to get stronger conference wide and basketball must reverse the current year slide sooner rather than later. I think the ACC made a wise choice for Commissioner and I hope he will earn his money cleaning up Swofford's messes/shortcomings.
